Phillip H. Anslemo‘s upcoming autobiography “Mouth For War: Pantera And Beyond” has been set for January 13, 2015 release date. The autobiography details Anselmo‘s time heading one of heavy music’s most iconic and influential bands.
“In this brutally honest, no-holds-barred memoir, Philip Anselmo, former frontman of the legendary metal band Pantera, finally tells his side of the story—on everything from the band’s meteoric rise to the murder of guitarist Darrell Abbott onstage.
From bar band obscurity to the bright spotlight of the world’s stage, Anselmo helped lead Pantera to world domination. He soared to the top with the first extreme metal album to debut at #1 on the Billboard music charts with Far Beyond Driven in 1994. He turned a bar-bumping glam metal band into the heaviest, most extreme, and most successful heavy metal unit since Metallica.
But the ride to the top wasn’t easy.
Soon after Far Beyond Driven topped the charts, Anselmo hit rock bottom at the band’s celebrated return gig in Dallas, Texas, where he was declared clinically dead for more than four minutes after he overdosed on heroin. He later watched Pantera disintegrate due to backbiting, alcohol and drug abuse, and chronic pain. And in addition to nearly killing himself, Anselmo has been blamed for killing the band and wrongfully accused as the reason his best friend and guitarist “Dimebag” Darrell Abbott was murdered onstage by a deranged fan. Anselmo’s rise to the top of the heavy metal heap as the ultimate frontman is the stuff of modern-day legend. Finally, he tells all in this fascinating narrative of his hard-won music career with incredible highs and devastating lows. Mouth for War is the hard, honest, brutal truth.”
Musicians across the heavy music community have paid tribute to Dimebag Darrell Abbott on the 8 year anniversary since his passing on December 08th, 2004. Randy Blythe of Lamb Of God had the following to say whilst currently on tour with Dimebag’s brother Vinnie Paul:
“Tonight’s show in Kansas City was an emotional one for us on this tour, especially the Hellyeah guys. Eight years ago (December 8th 2004) a crazy man jumped onstage and killed Darrell “Dimebag” Abbot in front of two members of Hellyeah, one of which, of course, is his brother Vinnie Paul. This night changed EVERYTHING for those of us in metal bands- something had been taken away from us, & it wasn’t just Dime. It was our care free sorta attitude- this sort of thing just didn’t happen in OUR SCENE. But it did, & we are all the worse for it. Things have changed, but we still are out here. Vinnie & Bobzilla are still out here rocking their balls off- they have my utmost respect for that. I don’t know if I would step foot on a stage again after witnessing & going through what they did. But they are musicians- plus Dime woulda wanted it that way- you can bet your ass on that. The other day Vinnie came to me & said “Hey man, can we have a few extra moments in Kansas City to have a drink in memory of Dime?” Are you kidding me? OF COURSE. So tonight, the whole damn tour, every member of every band, got up on that stage & had a drink in his honor. It felt like family to me, in those best moments of tour when you all are there together, doing this incredible thing, as a FAMILY. I wish Dime coulda been there in person with us. But it’s like I said tonight onstage- a mad man’s bullet can take this mortal shell, but TRUE LEGENDS NEVER DIE. We keep them alive, all of us, when we come together band & audience & do this thing we all love so much. RIP Dime– see ya on the other side bro!”

A new Pantera track titled ‘Piss‘ will be premiered at the Revolver Golden Gods award show on April 11 in celebration of the 20th anniversary of “Vulgar Display of Power“. The track will have an accompanying video. A comment from their Facebook Page:
For those of you attending the Revolver Golden Gods, you are in for a treat: UNRELEASED PANTERA song!
PANTERA will celebrate the 20th anniversary of their landmark album, Vulgar Display of Power, with the worldwide debut of their first music video in 12 years, for the previously unreleased song, “Piss,” from the Vulgar recording sessions. PANTERA drummer Vinnie Paul commented, “‘Piss’ is the only unheard complete Pantera track in existence. It was recorded at the same time as Vulgar Display of Power and it’s 100 percent Pantera with attitude and our signature groove! After mixing it, I can’t believe it didn’t make the record! So it’s 2012 and 20 years later and new Pantera music has been delivered. Cheers!”
